My working life has been mainly building and fixing boats, everything from a little dinghy to tall ships and superyachts.

In doing this I learnt about how to design and improve on what I was fixing and I love unlocking the puzzle that every problem brings. The skills and experience in dealing with the complex curves and restricted space of a boat’s interior allow me to provide alternative solutions. This has allowed me a unique insight into furniture and storage and I have applied these techniques to vehicular, domestic and commercial commissions. I have made items to help with people's sensory needs and environments.

To me, it’s as essential as breathing and just as unconscious. I have spent most of my life by the sea, in it, on it or under it. The natural and the built world speak to me equally and my pieces reflect this blend of form and function.

My sculptures, though, are where I can truly express my creative flow. In particular, I am fascinated by kinetic work and the problem solving is part of the creative process. Each sculpture requires a concept or track of movement I want to catch and I have to develop a way of making this effective. Marrying smooth flowing lines with dynamic tension, movement or the appearance of movement, a sculpture draws its audience to get them to engage with it and provide the energy to start it moving.
